This year, FLED is looking bigger than ever: With events including 24 companies at the career fair, student scholarship presentations, grad finale, and professional conversations with Dubuque business professionals. Students will be excused from all classes on Tuesday, April 1st with the chance to win their photo in the dining hall.

Clarke University hosts a Focused Learn and Engaged Day (FLED) for students both in the fall and spring semester. All students are excused from classes on this day to ensure their attendance to the event. FLED, in past years, has been viewed by students as just another day of presentations, but this year it looks different.

Focused Learn and Engaged Day will be held this spring on Tuesday, April 1st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with multiple opportunities to learn from community professionals. Clarke will be hosting three different events during FLED this year that appeal to all students, no matter the class. These events include: the celebration of scholarship, the grad finale, and the Clarke University job fair.

The celebration of scholarship is for students who are showcasing their work, knowledge, skills, and research. Alongside students, there will be a few different presenters from the community who will share their experiences in their respective professions. There will be presenters in Fabiano, Jansen Music Hall, the Iowa, Dubuque, and Mississippi rooms, and the LTC rooms. One of the presenters is Chris Brewer, a Clarke Alumni and the founder of River City Logistics, a growing company that has hosted many Clarke interns. Chris will share his knowledge and skills of owning a business and allow time for questions following the program held on FLED day.

The grad finale is for those who are graduating in May to collect any information they may need for their big day. Grad finale is a chance for those projected to graduate to make sure that everything is in line for them. You will be able to check your number of credits, chat with student accounts regarding your bill, and pick up your cap and gown if you pre-ordered it in February.

The Clarke University job fair will host multiple businesses in the community that are interested in hosting interns or hiring senior students for entry-level positions starting in the spring. This job fair serves a double purpose for students to find employment, but also to practice networking skills and self-branding. Currently, twenty-four local companies are hosting a booth at the career fair. Many of these businesses are alumni-owned, alumni-led, or host many Clarke alumni employees.

FLED this spring is being showcased as one of the biggest and best this year. The Clarke marketing team has also announced to host a contest during the event. Every student that attends FLED will receive a punch card that will enter them into a raffle to have their photo hung up in the dining hall. To be entered into the raffle, each student will need to receive a punch from one scholarship presentation and one career fair booth, additionally, seniors will need to attend the grad finale.
