Food Truck Friday is the time of the week that many students have been looking forward to throughout the semester. As the school year progresses the Clarke community will continue to see a diverse cuisine from across Dubuque.

Every Friday in front of the Atrium, Clarke hosts one food truck of a specific cuisine. These food options range from Mexican to Asian cuisine. The Clarke Student Association (CSA) started the process of picking food trucks in early August. By looking at reviews and reaching out through farmers markets, CSA aligned varying food trucks for Clarke this semester.

Throughout the first four months of school, CSA hosted four pastry and ice cream food trucks. These included Bob and Lou’s, Vesperman’s Ice Cream, Koppe’s Kreations, and Galena Roasters CoffeeBob and Lou’s was a mobile coffee shop that served gourmet lemonade and whole and ground coffee beans. Vesperman’s Ice Cream was highlighted for its creamy texture and reasonable pricing, this sweat treat was best for the hot September day. Koppe’s Kreations sold baked goods such as cupcakes, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. These savory pastries were the perfect grab and go snack after or before class. Lastly, Galena Roasters Coffee served a variety of delicious beverages such as lattes, cold brews, and dark roasts. These refreshing drinks were the perfect mid-day pick me up on a Friday afternoon.

Some other food trucks that made appearances on Fridays included Myson’s Taco Truck, Versus, Hibachi Time, Hangry Hobo, and Hangry’er Hobo. These more meal-like options received positive feedback mirroring their stellar reviews seen on yelp. Myson’s specialized in serving tacos and burritos with a variety of meats such as beef, steak, chicken and even vegetarian options. Versus is an Asian Fusion food truck that was discovered at Dubuque’s Farmers Market. It served everything from dumplings and noodles to sweet and spicy chicken.  Similarly, Hibachi Time also catered Asian cuisine serving dishes such as fried rice and shrimp with a mixture of veggies. They were praised for their generous portions and reasonable prices. Hangry Hobo was a change in cuisine serving breakfast foods such as skillets and bagels with a side of potatoes that received praiseworthy reviews. Lastly, Hangry'er Hobo served burgers and wraps and was also praised for their large portions and flavorful cuisine.

CSA plans on bringing a wider variety of food trucks next semester after spring break, as they discover more through the Farmers Market and various yelp reviews. Keep a look out for the next food truck Friday outside the Atrium around lunchtime.
