Clarke Women’s Soccer has been showing immense promise as they steadily make their progression into the depths of the season in the hopes of setting the foundation for more success ahead. With the current stats displaying an overall record of 4-6-2, the numbers are not the full display of the team’s potential as they attempt to find their rhythm, with each game being an acute display of the talent across the field. When asked about the team’s potential, head coach Josh Printz stated, “As staff, we are excited about the return of a great core group of players from last year’s campaign and are looking forward to building off it.”

The season opened on the 21st of August with a no scoreline against St. Thomas. Following was some tough games and narrow losses to St. Ambrose (1-0) and St. Xavier (3-2), then came a difficult road matchup against North Dakota, which was an exibition game against a NCAA Division I opponent. The team, however, responded with a deserving win on home turf against William Penn. Their recent victory illustrates the integrity of the team and their ability to respond through their increasing talent, qualities that will no doubt be vital as the season’s games continue.
Currently, the team holds a 3-4-1 conference record. Burrows Field has no doubt been a steady advantage for the team with their 3 wins reflecting their stability on familiar ground. With their recent crucial win over a strong Mount Mercy team (1-0), they solidified their position in the conference and showed their ability to compete with any top team in the Heart. From the depth of their panel, aspiring talent is displayed across various positions with freshmenstepping into vital roles; with Coach Printz referring to such, “We brought in a talented class of players and are ready to get going.” The group had a few key players out with injuries, which makes their combined efforts even more impressive. With new talent in addition to experienced players stepping up into leadership roles, this group of players make for a team that can compete for the playoffs once again this year.
With their season consisting of plenty competitive matchups ahead, if what we have seen so far continues, this season could follow in a lot of success for the talented athletes of Clarke Women’s Soccer.
