Men's Lacrosse Surge to the Postseason

A team on campus in full swing of their season is the Men’s Lacrosse team. They have had a scorching hot start to the year being 3-0 and 5-3 at various points. In years past the best start they had to a season was 2-1 in the 2021 season. The most wins in a season for the program was 3 which they set in 2022 and 2023 respectively. This year however, the team rattled off 5 wins and Coach Tucker La Belle earned Coach of the Year honors in the Heart of America Conference.

On February 19th Clarke swept the prestigious Heart Player of the week awards. Drew Dorenbush won defender of the week while Attacker Matt Archer won the attacker of the week honor. This came after the Pride was victorious against Concordia Chicago winning that game 9-0. Archer came away with a career-high 6 goals and tallied a point in all but 2 of the Clarke goals. Dorenbush added his 7th career goal in the game while playing stellar defense all night only allowing the Cougars to get 5 shots on goal. With only 5 shots on goal, Concordia Chicago did not score a goal all night and this was the Clarke’s first shutout in program history.

Newcomers like Doug Powless, Ryder Chaba, and Dominick Knazur have been filling the stat sheet for the Pride. Powless is the team leader in assists and is second in points scored for the team. Chaba is tied for the team lead in goals with 20 with Powless right behind him with 13 goals scored. Knazur is top 5 on the team in Ground balls this season with 31.

Clarke looks to capitalize on this productive year as they only lose 2 seniors going and retain their Coach of the Year going into the 2024-2025 season. Pride fans can look forward to more exciting plays next season as the team looks to get better and better.
